Not just about Wood anymore

When this web site was initially created its purpose was to introduce my business to the public who might be searching for a craftsman capable of fulfilling custom orders. Since that time my skills have allowed me to work on many interesting projects related to wood and metal working. These projects have included custom gunsmithing and antique firearms restoration, carriage making, restoring antique motor vehicles and phonographs and many other interesting smaller projects.

My father and mother were gifted an acre of land in 1950 when I was a year old and immediately moved an old one car garage to the site to live in and began building a whole house around it. I was always around as my father worked on it and as soon as I was able to hold a hammer, I began actually helping with the work. It seems like I have had a hammer in my hand ever since. The following two images are of me helping (or maybe they just gave me something to do to keep me out of the way).

In November of 2024 this site along with my other web site: www.germanhuntingguns.com was hacked by the Chinese and required a complete overhaul and restoration. That mission is still ongoing so please pardon me for pages that have not been finished yet.

For nearly 60 years I have been working on old firearms and have seen and handled many that were special and unique, and I enjoyed learning about them and the story of the people who created them. Now that I am semi-retired the purpose of this web site has shifted to being one of a vehicle to share what I have seen and learned over the years. This includes unpublished images of antique firearms collected by Mr. Jerry Swinney and others and can be found under the Bits & Pieces button. Feature Articles contains previously unpublished information about historical figures or collectors. I hope that you enjoy what is offered here for your study.

A 50-95 caliber 1876 Winchester rifle restored from a parts gun to the specifications set out in the Winchester factory letter for that rifle.

A Lefever side lock side by side shotgun which was originally a DS grade that had no finish or butt stock but did have a fine set of 26 inch barrels in excellent condition. This was a fine platform on which to add engraving, install a nice Turkish Walnut butt stock and finish it with case coloring, gold plated triggers and safety button and very good barrel bluing.

The Blacksmith Clock built around a fine French movement. When it strikes on the hour and half hour the smith strikes the anvil as the bell rings.
