Shotgun Restorations

Recently (2025) I restored a Thieme & Schlegelmilch “Nimrod” 16 ga. side by side shotgun which has one of the strongest lock ups of any side by side ever made. A greener cross bolt, two Purdy underlugs and two noses on the barrel flats that nest into recesses on the receiver flats.

A 16 ga. side by side with no makers name, made in Belgium and also proofed in Germany, it came to me as a set of barrels and a bare receiver with the complete fore end. Oct. 31, 2022- The following images shows a Eduard Kettner Drilling made in Suhl, Germany which came in with a badly broken Butt stock and a forend that was split into two pieces but was complete. It was restocked and the forend repaired and the checkering re cut.

I recently finished a new Butt Stock for a beautiful A. Schuler-Suhl grade 5A, 12 ga. side by side with Ejectors. Following are images of the gun completed. The checkering is 30 lines to the inch.

I just finished (5/5/2023) another restocking of a fine over-under double by Oskar Geiger of Berlin. The fore end is original. The first image shows the raw stock blank followed by an image of the bare receiver headed up to the wood.

The Next image shows the heading up completed and the stock shaping done and ready for final shaping and sanding.

The following image shows the stock checkered and stained with the Purdy Wart Hog Alkanet Root Oil, ready for the application on the oil finish.

Below are images of the completed butt stock on the gun.
